EXCERPT: I walked to his desk and ripped it from his hand, my eyebrows drawing
together at the message written down in big, black letters. I read the message aloud,
ignorance clouding my eyes. “The orphan doesn’t belong here.” Tears stung my eyes as
the realization dawned on me. “Me. I don’t belong here.” I dropped the note back to his
desk. Even after twenty-five years, being referred to as the orphan stung, pulling at
something deep inside of me. At the end of the day, I was still abandoned. I didn't
belong anywhere, not truly. It was a harsh reminder to see it written down.
Book Review:
really enjoyed how this starts with the new queen already on the throne, though neither she nor the rest of the Kingdom know why the previous King put her there. This was an interesting introduction to the story, as we usually follow the MC trying to reclaim their throne somehow. In terms of relationships there are some tropes used here that I love and others not so much, but I am still curious as to how the author will develop these further. (Also this is a very spicy read, perfect for fans of FBAA!) I think the parts that had me the most intrigued were Raven's magic and the mystery of her origins. We get some shocking revelations, that has me really excited for book 2!
